Other Dive Sites

If you are one of those divers who never have enough, and want to continue discovering new dive sites, in addition to the main dive areas of Koh Haa, Hin Daeng – Hin Muang, Koh Vida, and Koh Phi Phi, we offer, on-demand, excursions to other dive sites so that you can continue enjoying scuba diving in Koh Lanta.

These dive sites are located a little further away than the main ones, and we only organize excursions to them when we have enough divers to be able to take the boat out. Among our alternative dive sites, you will find another wreck, and the famous Anemone Reef and Shark Point, located between the islands of Koh Phi Phi and Phuket.

If you are interested in diving into these sites, do not hesitate to ask us. We will do everything possible to organize an excursion to these impressive dive sites, either in our speedboat or in another of our trusted boats.

King Cruiser

The King Cruiser passenger ferry entered the recent history of scuba diving in Thailand on May 4, 1997. When on one of its routine trips between the islands of Phuket and Koh Phi phi, it deviated slightly from its route and ended up colliding with the underwater pinnacles of Anemone Reef, another of the dive sites included in this article.

The crash opened a large crack in the ship’s fuselage, yet the ship’s captain and the crew managed to bring all 561 passengers to safety and keep the boat afloat for more than two hours. Until, in the end, the ship’s buoyancy collapsed, and it sank.

Today the ship lies on the seabed at a maximum depth of 33m. The wreck is 85m long, 25m wide, and the dive takes place between 16 and 33m deep. The wreck stills in very good condition despite the time, some sections have collapsed over the years, but it still offers many places to investigate.

Due to the depth and the moderate currents in the area, this dive is only suitable for advanced divers, students of the PADI Advanced Open Water Course, or Open Water divers who have certified deep diving adventure.

Shark Point

The famous Shark Point, located between the islands of Phuket and Koh Phi Phi, is the best dive spot you can visit in Phuket. It will be a rock formation made up of 3 pinnacles. The largest of them stands a couple of meters above sea level and descends to a depth of 30m. A second pinnacle, located very close to the main one, has its highest point 5m from the surface and goes to 30m deep.

These 2 main pinnacles are connected 18m deep by a sandy league where it is possible to find leopard sharks, bamboo sharks, and Khul’s rays. This is an area prone to moderate to strong currents, which encourages the growth of various types of coral, especially red and purple soft ones. It is also common to find large bell corals of great size.

There is a third pinnacle that, due to its depth, is the least known and least visited of all. This pinnacle begins at a depth of 16m, and since very few people dive it, it is a place full of life, with a great concentration of fish, corals, and invertebrates of all kinds. This pinnacle is the perfect place for macro photography.

Due to its strong currents, this dive site is suitable only for experienced divers. It´s necessary to master buoyancy and good control of air consumption.

Anemone Reef

Situated quite close to Shark Point (one nautical mile), Anemone Reef is another of the best dive spots in Phuket and Phi Phi.

The reef is in a rock formation located at a depth of between 5m and 20m deep, which makes it a real danger for navigation in the area. This reef is where in 1997, a passenger ferry King Cruiser crashed on its way to the Phi Phi Islands, breaking the hull, and the subsequent sinking of it two and a half hours later.

Its shallow reef favors the growth of all kinds of corals, and, as its name suggests, a very extensive colony of brightly colored anemones that carpet all surfaces between 5m and 12m deep. In addition to the anemones, in this reef you can find all kinds of clownfish, green and hawksbill turtles feeding among the corals, squid, all types of reef fish, and if you are lucky and have a good eye, you may find the beautiful Tiger-tail seahorse. It is also very common to find ringed sea snakes hunting in the recesses of the reef.

In the southern part of the reef, there is a channel that splits a segment of the reef between approximately 13m and 20m. In this place, it is common to see large schools of yellow fusiliers shielding themselves from the current, and it is an excellent place for macro photography.
